IUCLID 5 is a software application system developed by the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) through which all submissions for registration within REACH shall be done to ECHA. Companies wishing to submit information on their chemicals for registration shall have to fill information in IUCLID 5, which has a fixed format with very little facility for entering free text. IUCLID 5 allows one to conveniently enter, manage, store and exchange information on intrinsic and hazard properties of chemical substances. It implements the Harmonized Templates developed by the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development).

Considering the volume of information that would be exchanged during the Registration of the thousands of existing substances, a system was required that could make handling the voluminous data as well as retrieving the data fast and convenient, features that are an integral part of IUCLID 5.

IUCLID 5 is compatible with chemical legislation and programme requirements other than REACH including, the EU Biocides Directive, the OECD High Production Volume (HPV) Programme, Pest Control Products Act, US EPA HPV Chemicals program, etc.

Companies impacted by REACH can use IUCLID 5 to create, manage, store, view and export data on chemical substances to fulfill their REACH legislation requirements. The software can be downloaded and used free of charge.

But it is important to remember that the computer on which it is proposed to download IUCLID 5 should have minimum 1 GB RAM and recommended is 2GB RAM, as it is a robust software having more than 9000 entry fields!
